A motorcyclist injured Wednesday afternoon remains in intensive care unit at Queen of the Valley Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said Thursday.

Rudy Chairez, 61, of Sacramento, suffered moderate injuries on Highway 128 near Lake Berryessa after he crashed, trying to avoid a big rig traveling in the opposite direction, according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash was reported at 3:19 p.m.

The motorcycle swerved after the big rig, pulling two trailers, got off the roadway, the CHP said. As the driver of the big rig overcorrected, its rear trailer swung into the opposite lane into the motorcyclist’s path, the CHP said. The motorcyclist went down an embankment 10 to 15 feet,  according to CalFire/Napa County Fire.

Chairez was taken by ambulance to Queen of the Valley Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition as of 1 p.m. Thursday, said Vanessa DeGier, a hospital representative.
