Three people were arrested Tuesday for allegedly stealing meat and French bread from Safeway in American Canyon, police said.
At about 6 p.m., Jamal Tobin, 33, of Vallejo, and Angel Washington, 33, of American Canyon, allegedly stole about $50 worth of pork shoulders, shoulder ribs, hamburger and French bread from Safeway, American Canyon Police Chief Jean Donaldson said.
The two attempted to get into a gray vehicle, but ended up fleeing on foot after store security tried to detain the pair, he said. The store is at the corner of Highway 29 and American Canyon Road.
The driver of the waiting vehicle, Charles Robertson, 55, of Vallejo, allegedly told police that the pair had tried to carjack his vehicle and take his cell phone, Donaldson said.
Another police officer found Tobin and Washington in a creek near Las Casitas Mobile Home Park on Broadway east of Highway 29, across from Veterans Memorial Park, police said.
Upon further investigation, the pair said that Robertson was their friend, Donaldson said.
Tobin and Washington were arrested on suspicion of burglary and conspiracy, Donaldson said. Robertson was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy and providing false information, he said.
