An 18-year-old man was arrested Sunday in the 1100 block of Shetler Avenue, where police officers were dispatched at 1:49 p.m. to a report of an assault, according to Napa police.
The suspect, Carlos Medina of Vallejo, was allegedly under the influence of drugs when he went to the house where the mother of his child lives, police said. He became agitated when she questioned him about his sobriety, according to authorities.
Medina allegedly demanded money from her, police said. When she refused, Medina reportedly became even more agitated. When the woman tried to call police on her cellphone, Medina allegedly grabbed the phone and disconnected the call, police said. He then pushed the victim onto the floor before the officers arrived, police said.
While en route to the Napa County jail, the officer stopped the car because Medina began to bang his head against the screen of the cruiser, officials said.
Medina sprang from the back seat and allegedly tried to run when the officer opened the back door, police said. Medina was instantly caught and booked into the Napa County jail on suspicion of false imprisonment, willful cruelty to a child, battery, probation violation and other charges, according to police.
