Openings on disability, TV and senior boardskc/web

For the Register

The city of Napa currently has three openings on two local boards and one commission, with interested residents encouraged to apply.

The city clerk is accepting applications through March 22 for an opening on the Disability Access Board of Appeals, an opening on the Napa Public Access Cable TV board of directors, and a seat on the Senior Advisory Commission.

The Disability Access Board of Appeals is the decision body in cases where people appeal determinations made by the chief building official or fire code official when enforcing public access to public places. Applicants must be considered physically handicapped, as defined by the California Health and Safety Code Section 19957.5.

Applicants should understand the challenges faced by people with disabilities and the methods that can mitigate such daily challenges, according to the city. Each member is expected to serve a two-year term and must be a resident of Napa and a registered voter. Meeting times and locations vary and are called as needed.

The Napa Public Access Cable TV board of directors approves the station’s mission and vision and reviews management’s performance. The board annually assesses community needs and approves strategies to meet those needs. It also reviews and approves the program’s budget.

Applicants should appreciate the diversity of the community and have strategies to address those needs, city staff said. The terms for the board last two years, running from April 2013 to April 2015. Meetings are held from 5:15-6:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of every other month at 1600 Myrtle Ave., Napa.

Napa’s Senior Advisory Commission makes recommendations to the City Council on matters related to senior services, facility use and recreational activities at the Napa Senior Center. It establishes program goals and consists of seven members.

Applicants should be from an area senior service agency and must be residents of Napa and registered voters, according to the city. The term runs from April 2013 through September 2015. Meetings are held at 2 p.m. on the first Wednesday of every other month at the Senior Center, 1500 Jefferson St., Napa.

Applications are available at the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall, 955 School St., or online at CityofNapa.org. For more information, contact City Clerk Dorothy Roberts at 257-9503.
