This year, local Catholic churches will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Virgin Mary’s six appearances between May 13, 1917 and Oct. 13, 1917 to three peasant children in Fatima, Portugal.
She is credited with telling the children that war is a punishment for sin and warned that God would further punish the world for its disobedience by means of war, hunger and the persecution of the Catholic Church and the faithful.
Catholics in the Napa area will be remembering these events with special celebrations Oct. 13, 14 and 15:
— St. Apollinaris- Oct. 13, 7 p.m. Eucharistic adoration and rosary
— St. Thomas Aquinas—Oct. 13 from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. prayers in their new outdoor Fatima garden
— Kolbe Academy/Trinity Prep—Oct. 13, “Our Lady of Fatima Day” with Mass, Marian procession and reception from 7:55 to 9:30 a.m.
