A 21-year-old St. Helena man was in serious condition at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital Thursday morning after crashing a motorcycle into a tree Wednesday night, authorities said. The man, who was reportedly not wearing a helmet, was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Around 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, authorities responded to a solo vehicle crash on Crystal Springs Road north of Rose Lane, the California Highway Patrol reported. According to witnesses, the motorcyclist was traveling south on Crystal Springs without a helmet when he apparently overreacted upon seeing oncoming traffic, veered to the right and struck a tree.
The man, identified as Jason E. DeAlba of St. Helena, sustained major injuries, possibly including a skull fracture, the CHP said.
DeAlba was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI, the CHP said.
