Napa Police said they have detained several suspects who are believed to have robbed the CVS pharmacy on South Coombs Street on Monday afternoon.

The robbers jumped the pharmacy counter and forced the pharmacy workers to hand over controlled substances, said Lt. Chase Haag. They fled in a vehicle.

Police pulled over a vehicle headed south on Highway 29 as the occupants were throwing items out the window, Haag said.

At 3:21 p.m., police warned southbound motorists of a traffic backup as law enforcement searched the roadside.

A similar robbery occurred last Wednesday at the CVS on the 1500 block of Trancas Street. Three males jumped the counter and made off with thousands of dollars' worth of opioids, police said.

Those robbers, who got away, have been identified as the same individuals associated with other attempted robbers in Northern California this week, police said.

More information will be released as the investigation continues.
