A Napa resident was killed Saturday in a two-vehicle crash south of the Sonoma Valley Airport in Sonoma County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Mark Heinemann, 50, of Napa, was traveling in a 1976 Porsche southbound on Highway 121 at about 2:30 p.m. when, for unknown reasons, he crossed over into the northbound lanes, CHP Sgt. Gilberto Jose said. The driver overcorrected and lost control of his vehicle before he was broadsided by a 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser, the CHP said. Heinemann was pronounced dead by medical personnel at the scene, Jose said.
A female passenger in the Porsche was airlifted by CHP helicopter with unknown injuries to Queen of the Valley Medical Center, Jose said. The driver of the PT Cruiser, Barbara Knego, 83, of San Francisco, was airlifted by REACH helicopter to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, the CHP said. She was listed in stable condition as of 6:30 p.m., a hospital representative said.
The roadway was closed intermittently during the incident, and the crash remains under investigation, Jose said.
