A 33-year-old Napa man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after he allegedly punched a friend in the face, causing him to hit the ground and lose consciousness, the Napa County Sheriff’s Office said.

Authorities were called around 3 p.m. to the 2000 block of Imola Avenue regarding a man down, the sheriff’s office said. When they arrived, they found a man who had been knocked unconscious for several minutes, allegedly by Austin Matthew Coles.

Authorities were told that Coles, the alleged victim and two others were hanging out when the alleged victim said something Coles apparently did not like, causing Coles to allegedly strike him in the face, the sheriff’s office said. The alleged victim was taken by ambulance to a hospital.

Coles was arrested on suspicion of assaulting with great bodily harm, authorities said. He was booked into the Napa jail.
