Someone stole a payment check placed in a mailbox in the 2110 block of West Lincoln Avenue sometime between 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. Wednesday, according to the family and police.

On Wednesday, a walker found the opened envelope on the ground 1 1/2 blocks from the house and brought it back to the owner, Jim Hunter. Hunter said the envelope contained the payment stub for his pickup truck, but the check had been removed.

His family had to close the bank account, open a new one and set up new automated deposits, Hunter said.

He and his wife, Linda, are grateful for the female walker for bringing the matter to their attention in a timely manner. “We’re lucky,” Linda Hunter said.

Napa police Capt. Jeff Troendly on Thursday said the incident remains under investigation.

I have seen persons eating food while walking like an apple or other food items when done eating place apple core into mailbox. Persons was quick on there feet I didnot have time to confront them about the law, it is a crime to open other persons mail boxes.

How does one "walk like an apple?"

I make it a practice to NEVER put outgoing mail in my mail box. I deliver it to the PO or to one of the few walk-up/drive-up USPS boxes around town.
So many low-life folks around, one really has to be careful.
