A person is dead following a head-on collision Tuesday morning in unincorporated Sonoma County, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.
The two-vehicle collision was reported around 7:45 a.m. on state Highway 12 just east of Agua Caliente Road in the Boyes Hot Springs area.
CHP spokesman Officer Marc Renspurger said a black pickup truck collided with another vehicle driven by the person who died.
The driver of the pickup was able to get out of the truck before it became engulfed in flames, Renspurger said.
The driver of the truck and a child in the other vehicle suffered major injuries and both are at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
Highway 12 is two lanes and is painted with double-yellow lines where the collision occurred. Renspurger said both directions of the highway at Moon Mountain Drive are closed this morning as officers investigate what happened.
A Sig-alert is still in effect and there is no estimate for when the road will reopen.
