A 21-year-old man was arrested in connection with a stabbing Saturday morning in Napa, according to police.

Officers were called to the 1300 block of Fourth Street shortly before 9:50 a.m. after a reported altercation, Capt. Jeff Troendly said in a news release. Two men arguing over stolen property came to blows, and one of the men, David James McCarthy, pulled out a knife and stabbed the other man once in the abdomen before fleeing, Troendly said.

Police stopped McCarthy, a transient, a few blocks away at Main and Fifth streets. He was detained and booked into the Napa County jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and giving false information to police officers.

The victim, whose name was not released, was treated at the scene by the Napa Fire Department, according to Troendly. He was then taken by American Medical Response to Queen of the Valley Medical Center for what police called minor injuries before being released.

40 years ago people settled arguments with words or just their plain fists. Society today if one gets into a altercation with another person, they pull out a knife or gun and shoot or stab you. this is a sick perverted society we live in today and we all have to be very careful who we associate with period. Times have definitely changed and sadly it will get worse.

40 years ago people stabbed and shot each other. In fact, people have been shooting and stabbing each other since the invention of guns and knives.

The murder rate was twice as high 40 years ago.

Good point "crooked6pence" you're so correct. but in this day and age especially in our local schools, violence of this nature has gotten a lot worse. and will continue to be so. It's so terrible and sad that this happens all the time and is escalating.
