A 43-year-old Napa man was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment after he was allegedly caught driving while under the influence of a controlled substance with two young children in the vehicle, police allege.
James Robert Smith, 43, was pulled over around 6:30 p.m. Sunday regarding a mechanical violation, police said. Officers then noted the man showed signs of being impaired by a controlled substance and conducted a field sobriety test, which he allegedly failed.
The suspect’s two children, ages 2 and 4, were allegedly in the car, police said. The man was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment, drug possession and violating parole. Police did not say why he was not arrested on suspicion of DUI.
