A memorial ceremony will take place Sunday for animal victims of the October wildfires in Napa and Sonoma counties.
The event will be from 2 to 4 p.m. at Silverado Resort & Spa, 600 Atlas Peak Road, organized by Jameson Animal Rescue Ranch in the Napa Valley and San Rafael-based In Defense of Animals.
Napa County Board of Supervisors Chair Belia Ramos will officiate, along with Cal Fire Capt. Jake White, Dr. Claudia Saunders of the Napa Community Animal Response Team, Charlie Toledo, director of the Suscol Intertribal Council, and author Dr. Will Tuttle.
Many animals lost their lives during the fire tragedy, said Monica Stevens, co-founder of Jameson Animal Rescue Ranch. "So many of those animals that died are never mentioned and we felt it important to honor their lives," she said.
Participants will be invited to share stories and process their grief for the wild and domestic animals who lost their lives. They are invited to bring photos and mementos of animals who died for a communal blessing by local clergy.
