A driver for Black Tie Taxi reported being grabbed by a rider and threatened with a knife Sunday night while transporting a fare home from a bar, Napa Police said.

Police said the cabbie picked up Neil Robert Dombaugh, 50, at 12:45 a.m. at Stone's Sports Bar and Lounge at River Park Shopping Center on Imola Avenue.

A friend paid the driver $20 and asked him to take Dombaugh, who had been drinking, home, police said.

On the 3000 block of Solano Avenue, Dombaugh allegedly reached from behind, grabbed the driver's face, and threatened to stab him with a folding knife, police said.

The driver managed to free himself and call his dispatcher, who then called police.

Dombaugh was arrested at the scene. He was first examined at Queen of the Valley Medical Center, then booked into the Napa County jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and violation of his release from jail on an earlier charge, police said.
