A 57-year-old Vallejo man was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery after becoming violent at Val’s Liquors on Soscol Avenue Saturday morning, according to Napa Police.

Kevin Gillen allegedly entered the store, asked an employee about purchasing cigarettes and started to become violent, police said. Gillen slammed his fists on the counter, knocked over items and threw something at an employee before going behind the store counter toward the employee, police said.

Gillen eventually left the store and was followed by a witness who told police of his location. He was fouind walking along Highway 221 near Napa Valley College, but when an officer attempted to stop him, he fled, police said.

When Gillen continued to run away, refusing to obey commands, the Napa County Sheriff's Office K9 Unit was called in to assist. Gillen was bit in the arm and taken to the ground by K9 Nash, deputies said. Gillen was detained, treated at Queen of the Valley Medical Center and booked at the Napa County jail on suspicion of attempted robbery and resisting an officer.

Gillen is being held on $10,000 bail.
