On Tuesday, a man waved over a police officer to report he had spotted someone riding his stolen bicycle on Soscol Avenue, according to Napa Police. His bicycle, estimated at $500, was reported stolen last August.

The officer stopped Michael Don Berry, 56, of Napa, as he rode the bike in the 800 block of West Imola Avenue, Capt. Jeff Troendly said. Berry told the officer he found the bicycle frame without the wheels in a Walmart trash bin near Soscol and Lincoln avenues, and had rebuilt it, he said.

The bicycle’s serial numbers had been altered, though most numbers were consistent with those of the bike reported stolen last summer, police said.

Berry was booked into the Napa County jail on suspicion of theft, possession of known stolen property and removing identification from personal property, police said.
