A 23-year-old man was arrested on gun-related charges after a police dog located a loaded, stolen handgun discarded at the north end of Lombard Road in American Canyon, according to American Canyon Police.
Officers were dispatched to a business on the 200 block of Lombard Road at 3:43 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a fight, police said. According to the report, two employees and two of the employee’s friends were fighting when one of them pulled out a black handgun. Everyone scattered at the site of the gun and before officers arrived, police said.
Kamonte Frederick Hyde, 23, of Vallejo, who was identified as the man who allegedly brandished the gun, was contacted by police after he was seen running out of a dirt lot at the north end of Lombard Road, near the business.
Police dog Chase located a 9mm Beretta handgun at the base of a nearby date palm, police said.
The gun was loaded and the safety was off, police said. It had been reported stolen out of Richmond.
Police said that Hyde eventually admitted to possessing the handgun and he was arrested. Hyde was booked at the Napa County jail on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm in public. His bail was set at $50,000.
