One or more persons stole $2,000 worth of jewelry and a gun from a house in the 1200 block of Bennett Lane near Calistoga while the residents were gone, according to the Napa County Sheriff’s Office.

The thief may have entered the house after reaching the door knob through a doggie door, Capt. Tracey Stuart said. The residents, who had left the house at 6:15 a.m., returned home at 4:55 p.m. to find the rear door opened. The incident was reported at 5:10 p.m.

The residents said they had noticed a suspicious van in the morning. The plates were from a stolen vehicle from South Lake Tahoe, Stuart said.

There are no known suspects.

Also on Wednesday, a $1,500 gas-powered asphalt saw was reported stolen at 3:30 p.m. from the bed of a truck parked in the 3200 block of Highway 29 near Calistoga, Stuart said.
