The 55-year-old man whose body was found in the parking lot of Napa Methodist Church on Monday morning has been identified as Steven Michael Lloyd, according to the Napa County Sheriff’s coroner.
Medical personnel found Lloyd’s body at the church at 625 Randolph St. at 8:30 a.m. after receiving a call about an unconscious person, Napa Police reported. Lloyd was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lloyd’s mother in Ohio was notified of his death on Monday, said Sheriff’s Capt. Steve Blower. A forensic examination is planned for later this week to determine the cause of death, he said.
Lloyd had no listed address and was a known transient in Napa. Lloyd served in the U.S. Air Force between 1985 and 1987. He was most recently in custody at the Napa County jail for a night on Dec. 6 for an alleged probation violation. He has a history of alcohol-related contacts with law enforcement as well as a history of seizures, Blower said.
He was dropped off at the Hope Resource Center on the same block as Napa Methodist Church shortly before being found.
For now, Blower said, police are investigating the incident as a suspicious death.
