Since I believe that I wrote the first cartoon criticism back in February in the Opinion Page regarding my dislike of Thomas Toles (“Recent news offers plenty to banter about,” Feb. 21), I note there have been additional complaints of other cartoons in this regard; the most recent having come from a reverend.
These remarks might be giving something like holy heartburn to the good people at the Register, so I wish to soothe things a bit by saying even the dental industry, including my own daughter (who is a dental hygienist), can agree with a recent Sunday depiction of a child with several missing teeth clutching harmful products and rejecting fluoride (“Fluoridated Water” cartoon, April 1). Truly, you found an issue that is not only local, but is easy for all of us to accept.
Along with many friends and neighbors, I had no idea our water was not fluoridated until you recently reported it. In the interest of dental hygiene, I would further let it be known that fluoride pills are available and widely prescribed for children.
I understand you subscribe to a cartoon service and what you get is what we are shown, but with local talent obviously available, maybe in the future Roberto Tinoco, the cartoonist here in Napa, should have his talents more frequently presented.
