In response to Jerry Cohn’s letter about gun violence (“What do churches have to say about guns?,” March 3), I would refer him to the testimony by the presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church before the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, civil rights and human rights hearing on the “Proposal to Reduce Gun Violence: Protecting our Communities While Respecting the Second Amendment,” on Feb. 12.
I cannot speak for all faith communities, but I am proud of the actions my faith community is taking to influence public policy — not just in the above testimony, but in continuing efforts to influence our lawmakers.
Mr. Cohn noted that he had “been following the media circus about guns and gun control.” Unfortunately, the media do not report widely on the actions taken by religious organizations in this regard. He may want to broaden his search.
