I live on Clay Street. Mr. Wolter's recent letter to the editor is dead on ("Dangerous conditions at Clay and Walnut," June 23). The speeding on Clay Street is excessive and dangerous to those residents who live here or in proximity.
I have had conversations with city police and traffic control. While receptive to my input, I have seen little action to attempt to mitigate the problem other than placing a radar trailer on the street twice in this past year.
I also argued for speed bumps and was told that the fire department does not want them. The argument is that they would impede their vehicles in emergencies. I don't buy this argument; other cities, including Petaluma, make effective use of speed bumps. They also have fire departments.
I would like some action taken before the street becomes the Clay Street Freeway.
