Two weeks ago, a sign was posted at Alston Park urging patrons to call the Napa Parks and Recreation Department and complain about high schools using Alston for cross country meets. The Parks and Recreation Department (we are told) received several calls of complaint.
We find it very difficult to believe that a substantial number of Napa residents find a healthy, active, and positive activity like cross country a nuisance. Our kids work hard at their sport, and we are proud of their efforts.
Alston Park has been the home course for all three high schools in town (Justin-Siena, Vintage and Napa high schools) for the past two decades. It is disheartening for us that park patrons can’t share the park a few Wednesdays in the fall for just two short hours in the afternoon.
If you want to voice your support for our student athletes, please contact the Napa Parks and Recreation Department.
