Wow! Stuart Smith is excited. His recent screed about one long endless “summer of discontent” with folks ceaselessly attacking our local wine industry takes high umbrage about the well-heeled folks, freeloaders and naysayers whose greed, newbyism and whining hypocrisy (sic) urge the Department of Sales Prevention to enforce conditions in winery use permits ("Agricultural sustainability is not possible without economic vitality," Sept. 14). Those are Stu’s well chosen words.
Bombastic ad hominem attacks seem to be working for Donald Trump, but who knew we have one of our own who can match him in obloquy and vituperation?
Stu quotes Pogo “We have met the enemy and he is us.” But he really seems to be channeling GM Chairman Engine Charlie Wilson’s apocryphal quote, “What’s good for General Motors is good for the country.” Certainly what has been good for a healthy, prosperous wine industry has been good for Napa, but it may not advance the current conversation much to play the Donald Trump card, fun though it is.
Lighten up, Stu.
