Barbara L. Scheumann, 77, of Napa, passed away peacefully in her sleep Dec. 2, 2012, following a brief illness.
Barbara was born Dec. 24, 1934, in Berkeley, the daughter of the late Francis Henry and Barbara Polglase Nicholls. She retired as a bookkeeper from Raymond Winery and was a devout member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She was a longtime member and past president of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Napa, and had served the organization as lieutenant governor.
One of Barbara’s favorite activities before taking ill was going to the casinos with her good friend, Joyce. Longtime family friend Glen Poulter was always there to lend a helping hand, friendship and support.
Barbara will be missed by her family and friends, but we all find solace knowing she is now with her heavenly father and her loving husband, whom she greatly missed.
Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 26 years, Donald Scheumann, in 2001. She is survived by children, Jerry Scheumann, and his wife Gina, Jody Scheumann and his wife Holli, Joel Scheumann, Nancy Redding and her husband John, and Patrick Haley; sister Robin Deborah Goulter; brothers Tom Nicholls and his wife Bonnie, and Frank Nicholls. She is also survived by grandchildren Jason, Tyson, Abby, Julia, Jack, Hilloree, Jordan, Grant, and Amanda; five great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Aegis of Napa and Napa Valley Hospice for not only their tender loving care, but also for treating Barbara with dignity and respect. We will always be grateful.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec.13, 2012, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 3521 Linda Vista Ave., in Napa, with the Rev. Mark Heine, family life pastor, officiating.
The family asks that memorials be made to Hospice of Napa Valley, 414 S. Jefferson St., Napa, CA 94559; or to the Kiwanis Club of Greater Napa, P.O. Box 2625, Napa, CA 94558. Treadway & Wigger Funeral Chapel and Crematory is serving the family of Mrs. Scheumann.
