Herbert, 71, born Sept. 22, 1941, passed Nov. 9, 2012, from pancreatic cancer in Napa.
Herb was born in the Bronx, N.Y., to Rocco Ferdinando de Grassi and Nora Charlotte Applebaum. Herb graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, with a bachelor’s and master’s in mathematics. His work was computer programming, teaching and Santa Claus.
Herb’s son, Benjamin Frederick Masterson de Grasse (Bennie), was born Dec. 6, 1983. Herb married his beloved wife, Caren Rae Monson (Ren R.W. Monson), on June 23, 1990, then moved to American Canyon. Herb was son-in-law to Raymond and Evelyn Rey Monson.
Herb attended diabetic, cancer, Unitarian Universalist groups and volunteered at Grip and Spiral. He wrote stories, poetry, songs and made films. Herb loved cats, hiking, and was compassionate, loving and spiritual.
