Once again, the Register reports on the need to spend public money on improving our streets to attract more bicycle commuters. Do they truly expect to increase the number of riders up to 10 percent of commuters in 18 years?
I have a simpler solution. Legislate only simple, no-frills automobiles. Outlaw luxury in cars. Today's automobiles have fully adjustable leather seats that are air conditioned or heated. They have stereo systems better than what we put in our homes. The automobile's climate control system is unrivaled compared to home systems. And let's not forget the access to the Internet in our cars. Plus, they are becoming a self-driving vehicle.
Why would anyone in their right mind want to give up all that luxury in order to brave the elements on a bicycle? Oh, yeah, we're saving the planet while riding in the wind and cold, heat and humidity.
Think about it.
