We can greatly reduce the risk of disastrous wildfires in California by adopting the following policies in providing electrical power:
All existing or planned extremely rural homes in California should be reviewed by the power utilities for being taken "off the grid" with rooftop solar, large Elon Musk-range battery storage, and a generator backup.
Utilities should be required to offer at least three different-sized power systems and give extremely rural home-owners and businesses the option to pay off the costs with monthly payments similar to the rates they are paying currently for grid-based power.
When utilities balk, mount a major infrastructure capital effort to either put power lines underground or use high steel towers for all others cases in rural areas so we can stop having those dangerous high fire risk power lines cross the increasingly vulnerable California woodlands.
