Dear Congressman Thompson ("Time is now to act on gun violence," Oct. 4): I would just like to remind you that our Civil Rights are non-negotiable.
No law could have prevented Las Vegas's tragedy. The 25,000 local, state, and federal firearms laws currently on the books prove that. The Brady Bill already provides for background checks in all 50 states.
I have not heard your voice regarding the 50-plus people killed in Chicago and do not recall you speaking up about Eric Holder selling firearms to the Mexican drug cartels. Freedom is a harsh mistress and it is a gift that we are the only country in the world with a Bill of Rights.
Once we lose one, the rest will follow.
