Big Game XXXVII: Vintage at NapaLast week: Colby Silva had a fumble recovery and Juan Martinez and David Smith sparked Napa’s defense as it shut out Vacaville’s explosive offense over the final 11⁄2 quarters of a 50-35 victory that clinched a share of the MEL title. Vintage kept its playoff hopes alive with a 42-21 rout at Armijo, as Jacob Roscoe returned from injury to score a career-best four TDs and 181 yards on 18 carries.

Napa (6-1, 2-0 MEL) at Fairfield (4-3, 1-1)Last year: Then-junior Fairfield QB Keith Welch Jr. was 17-for-37 passing for 250 yards, seven TDs and no interceptions, and threw or ran for five 2-point conversions. But Napa overcame a couple of first-half deficits to prevail 60-52 behind its senior stars and then-junior Brandon Washington, who caught his first varsity TD pass.

Fast from head to toeMichael Ruffino can do the math. He’s an excellent student, especially with numbers, and that’s why he looks at the Napa High football team’s only loss this year as his most memorable one so far.

Brandon Washington had a then-season-best three catches for 57 yards and two TDs, Clinton Gorsuch had 60 yards passing/rushing and Scott Dinov ran for 34 yards to lead the juniors in Napa’s seventh straight win over Armijo.
