The St. Apollinaris fourth-grade boys basketball team captured the Division I North Bay CYO League title on Sunday by beating St. Eugene's of Santa Rosa 30-20. St. Apollinaris (11-3 overall) and St. Eugene's (9-5) had played each other twice
previously, each winning once by a one-point
margin. In the championship, St. Apollinaris —- featuring players from five different schools in Napa —- erased an early deficit to take an 11-8 halftime lead. An 11-point third quarter sealed the deal for the winners. The tournament had 25 teams from across Northern California split into four divisions based on enrollment size. Colton Forster led St. Apollinaris with nine points and seven rebounds, while Brendan Peterson had eight points and three boards, Garrett Erickson four points and four rebounds, Nate Graziani four points and one board, Jared Horn three points and four rebounds and Spencer Gavin two points. James Bickford, Ryan Hart, Remy Troussieux and Sami Zaia also played well, especially on defense.
