The University of San Diego honored Miles McArdle of Napa with the Outstanding Offensive Lineman award for the 2017 season.

The USD awards banquet was held Saturday on the school’s campus.

McArdle, a senior offensive tackle, was named to the All-Pioneer Football League team last fall for San Diego.

It was McArdle’s second time to be selected to the first team.

San Diego (10-3 overall, 8-0 Pioneer Football League) won its fourth consecutive PFL title and sixth PFL championship in the last seven years.

San Diego opened the 2017 NCAA Division I FCS Playoffs by beating Northern Arizona, 41-10, in Flagstaff, Arizona. The Toreros lost in the second round to North Dakota State, 38-3.

McArdle is a 2014 Napa High School graduate and was the Monticello Empire League’s Co-Lineman of the Year as a senior.

Folsom, De La Salle to meet in season opener

The 2018 high school football season will begin in a gigantic way in August.

In a nonleague matchup of Northern California powerhouse programs, Folsom and host De La Salle will meet on Aug. 17 in Concord in a Zero Week game, according to

Folsom went 16-0 last year and won the Division 1-AA CIF State Championship Bowl Game, 49-42 over Helix-La Mesa. Folsom outscored its opponents, 770-301.

De La Salle was 11-2 and lost to Mater Dei-Santa Ana in the CIF State Championship Bowl Game open division, 52-21.

All-State Team

Several players from CIF Sac-Joaquin Section and North Coast Section schools are among those who were named the 39th annual 2017 Cal-Hi Sports All-State Football Team.

Joe Ngata (Folsom, wide receiver), Will Craig (Granite Bay, offensive line), and Blake McDonald (San Ramon Valley-Danville, offensive line) are first-team All-State offense.

Henry To’oto’o (De La Salle-Concord, linebacker) is first-team All-State defense.

Brandon Mello (Clayton Valley-Concord, offensive line) and Spencer Petras (Marin Catholic-Kentfield, quarterback) are second-team offense.

Tuli Letuligasenoa (De La Salle, defensive line) and Ryan Wright (California-San Ramon, punter) are second-team defense.

Kaiden Bennett (Folsom, quarterback/running back) and Kairee Robinson (De La Salle, running back/defensive back) are second-team multi-purpose.
