(tncms-asset)ed4013fe-edc0-11e7-ab2f-00163ec2aa77(/tncms-asset)Jabriel Allen, a transfer from Napa Valley College, is averaging 4.8 points and 17.6 minutes per game as a 6-foot-4 junior guard for the Alcorn State University (Lorman, Mississippi) men’s basketball team.
Alcorn State is an NCAA-Division I school and plays in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
Allen played last year at Napa Valley after playing one season at Snow College in Utah.
Allen was an All-Bay Valley Conference player for Napa Valley and averaged 20 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.2 steals per game.
Allen is originally from Muncie, Indiana. He played in all 26 games for the Storm and shot 48.7 percent from the field and 44.7 percent from the 3-point line. He shot 77.9 percent from the free-throw line. Allen scored a season-high 43 points against Merritt College-Oakland in a Bay Valley Conference game and scored at least 30 points in four other games.
He will have two years of eligibility at Alcorn State.
Gary Trent, Jr., who played for Prolific Prep Academy of Napa, started at a guard position and scored 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting and had three steals in 23 minutes for Duke in a 104-40 nonconference win over Evansville on Dec. 20 at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, North Carolina.
“These first games, these 10, 11, 12 games we’ve played in, I’ve learned a lot,” Trent, Jr., a freshman, said on the Duke website. “It’s been great, and I’m glad to be here.”
“Gary’s been as good, or probably even a little bit better than I thought he would be this early,” head coach Mike Krzyzewski said. “He’s adapting to this level and playing with other good guys.”
Paul Scruggs, who played for Prolific Prep Academy of Napa, is averaging 4.2 points and 2.1 rebounds per game as a freshman guard for the Xavier men’s basketball team.
The Sacramento Bee named Joseph Ngata of Folsom as the Player of the Year on its 2017 All-Metro football team. Ngata is a wide receiver-defensive back.
