Prolific Prep Academy of Napa is the host team for the third annual Crush in the Valley, one of the top high school boys basketball tournaments on the west coast.

It’s a Grind Session event and will be held Jan. 27 and 28, 2018 at American Canyon High School.

The Grind Session is a winter circuit of elite high school basketball events around the country.

Oklahoma’s Alex Bakshi won the Audi Napa Valley Tennis Classic at Meadowood Napa Valley Resort in St. Helena last week.

Bakshi, a sophomore, advanced to the tiebreaker shootout after going 3-0 in his group during pool play.

Bakshi went on to beat UC Berkeley’s J.T. Nishimura, 11-9, Texas A&M’s A.J. Cantazariti, 18-16, and Texas A&M’s Valetin Vacherot, 10-6, in the final.

The tournament field also had Baylor, Notre Dame and USC, along with U.S. Tennis Association juniors.

The event, now in its 17th year, also featured round-robin doubles and a pro-am tournament.

Napa players fared very well in recent U.S. Tennis Association Northern California tournaments.

Parvathi Shanker of Napa had two wins in girls 14 singles-B. Shanker had wins over Natasha Rajaram of Cupertino, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1, and Abigail Zhurko of Orangevale, 6-3, 6-3.

Jeffrey Jacklich of Napa had two wins in men’s 50 singles. Jacklich had wins over Mark Nicholson of Modesto, 7-5, 7-5, and Donn Calder of Tahoe City, 6-0, 6-1.

Antoine Saleh of Napa teamed with Jonathan Ball of Stockton to win in the finals of Flight 30 of boys doubles, 8-0 over Tyler Cheung of Danville and Julian Whalen of Marysville.

Torrey Van Winden had 10 kills and Adlee Van Winden had eight kills, helping the Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of host UC Davis in a Big West Conference volleyball match on Tuesday.

Torrey Van Winden had a .240 attack percentage, six digs, two block assists and 11 points.

Adlee Van Winden had a .222 attack percentage, six digs and 8.5 points.

They are both Vintage High School graduates.

Training camp for the NBA champion Golden State Warriors begins on Saturday at the team’s Rakuten Performance Center in Oakland.

The Warriors will open their preseason schedule against the Denver Nuggets on Sept. 30 at Oracle Arena in Oakland.
