Dempsey Roggenbuck, a 6-foot-4 guard who played for Prolific Prep Academy of Napa, was named as the D3hoops.com West Region Rookie of the Year for the Linfield College (McMinnville, Oregon) men’s basketball team.
Earlier in the year, Roggenbuck was selected as the Freshman of the Year in the Northwest Conference. It’s an NCAA Division III conference.
Roggenbuck, who is from Marin County, also earned All-NWC honorable mention honors.
“On behalf of Linfield men’s basketball, I want to thank D3hoops.com for selecting Dempsey for the West Region Rookie of the Year Award,” Linfield coach Shanan Rosenberg said in a story on the school’s website. “He had a tremendous year for us and was a force of fortune for our team. He still has new heights to grow into and that’s really exciting.”
Roggenbuck averaged 12.5 points and 2 rebounds per game, while averaging 21.8 minutes per game for Linfield (16-9 overall, 10-7 Northwest Conference).
He scored a career-best 31 points on 12-of-20 shooting and was 4-of-7 on 3-pointers in Linfield’s 87-76 loss to Whitman in the Northwest Conference playoffs.
Roggenbuck played as a shooting guard for Prolific Prep.
Gary Trent Jr. and Duke (26-7) open the NCAA Tournament on Thursday against Iona (20-13) in Pittsburgh.
Duke is the No. 2 seed in the Midwest Region. Iona is the No. 15 seed.
Trent, a 6-foot-6 freshman guard who played for Prolific Prep Academy of Napa, has started 33 games and is averaging 14.3 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. He is averaging 33.5 minutes per game.
Kelsi Maday, a Napa High School graduate, is batting .424 (25-for-59) with two doubles, a triple, two home runs, 14 RBIs, 22 runs scored and 16 stolen bases for the UC San Diego softball team (19-4 overall, 12-4 California Collegiate Athletic Association).
Joelle Aiello, a Vintage High graduate, is batting .371 (13-for-35) with three RBIs and seven runs scored for the Valley City State University softball team (Valley City, North Dakota).
Valley City State, an NAIA school, is 9-3 on the year.
Vintage High graduate Baylee Robben is batting .256 with a double and five RBIs for the Solano Community College softball team (7-8-1 overall).
Jamie Batto, a Vintage graduate, is batting .250 with two RBIs.
Molly Schnurr, a graduate of Napa High, is batting .217 with two doubles and five RBIs.
Alexa Vavricka, a Vintage graduate, is batting .211 with two doubles and five RBIs.
The 2018 CIF Northern California Regional Soccer Championships concluded on Saturday with the finals for boys and girls teams in four divisions.
Winning titles in boys divisions: St. Ignatius-San Francisco (Division I), Alisal-Salinas (Division II), West Campus-Sacramento (Division III), and Le Grand (Division IV).
Winning titles in girls divisions: Monte Vista-Danville (Division I), Woodland (Division II), Cardinal Newman-Santa Rosa (Division III), and Lowell-San Francisco (Division IV).
Each division had three rounds, concluding with regional championship games.
