Crystal Andreas scored both goals early in the first half, getting assists from fellow senior Kyla Booker and sophomore Samantha Schwantz, as the Crushers defeated Rodriguez 2-1 on Thursday at Memorial Stadium.
Rodriguez scored in the game’s final minute on a 35-yard shot.
“We pretty much dominated the game and time of possession,” Vintage head coach Bernie Ochoa said. “We had a lot of opportunities to score that we couldn’t capitalize on, and we need to work on that because teams can come back from a 2-0 deficit.”
It was still a big win over a program that tied for the Solano County Athletic Conference title with Benicia last season.
“It was definitely a great win for us,” Ochoa said. “More than anything, our defensive unit definitely played well together.”
Ochoa said goalkeepers Natalie Lundeen and Ariana Kampton and center back Niko Baila had huge defensive games for the Crushers.
Vintage picked up another 2-1 victory on Friday at San Marin in Novato.
Andreas scored on an assist by Delia Jimenez, and Bianca Gonzalez added an unassisted goal by bending in a corner kick for the Crushers.
Vintage (3-0) will visit Novato High at 3:30 p.m. Monday for the first of four games in four days.
