Napa Valley Swim Team accepting new members

The Napa Valley Swim Team is currently accepting new members, ages 6-18, for its year-round competitive swimming program.

Memberships are available for all levels of the program and less experienced swimmers are welcome. NVST offer several new choices with once and twice per week options with its Novice ($60 and $75 per month) and Junior Varsity ($80 and $100 per month) programs.

Prospective swimmers should be able to swim at least 25 yards of backstroke and freestyle with side breathing.

The Napa Valley Swim Team is a nonprofit USA Swimming program.

Evolve Volleyball training for ages 8-14 starts Oct. 19

Evolve Prep Volleyball Program will offer trainings through the Napa Parks and Recreation Department on Thursday and Sundays, Oct. 19 to Nov. 9, for ages 8-14 at the Las Flores Community Center and Napa High gyms.

Players ages 8-11 will meet from 3:45 to 5:15 p.m.

Players ages 12-14 will meet from 5:15 to 6:45 p.m.

Evolve is also offering two pre-tryout clinics, on Oct. 22 and 29. Times and location are forthcoming.

Tryouts for Evolve teams will be Nov. 4-5.

Ugly Sweater Golf Tournament at Chardonnay Oct. 28

The second annual Ugly Sweater Golf Tournament is Saturday, Oct. 28, at Chardonnay Golf Club. A prize will be awarded to the golfer with the ugliest sweater.

Registration starts at 9 a.m. There is an 11 a.m. shotgun start for the tournament, which has a scramble format. The cost is $95 per player and includes golf, range balls, appetizers and prizes.

All proceeds go to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Napa Valley. Tournament organizers will also be doing a Toys for Tots drive, accepting gift donations for children this holiday season.

Hall of Fame awards dinner Oct. 28

The 21st annual Napa High School Athletic Hall of Fame will honor this year’s inductees, Michael Blair and Jay Suesens, along with the guests of honor, the 2017 CIF Sac-Joaquin Section champion softball team, and coach Troy Mott.

This year’s Hall of Fame dinner is Oct. 28 at Embassy Suites Hotel Napa Valley. A no-host cocktail reception is at 5:30 p.m., and is followed by the dinner and awards program at 7 p.m.

This year’s scholarship recipients, Austin Spinelli and Kelsey Kampton, will also be honored.

The cost for a dinner entrée is $70. The cost for a child’s plate is $20.

The deadline to return the reservation form and payment is Oct. 18.

Reservation and payment is to be mailed to NHS Athletic Hall of Fame Foundation, 1880 Sutter Court, Napa, CA 94559.
