Heroes of the Valley charity softball tournament Sept. 23

The Kiwanis Club of Greater Napa, in partnership with the Napa Police Officers Association, announces the third annual Heroes of the Valley charity softball tournament. It will be held on Saturday, Sept. 23 at the Kennedy Park softball fields.

The opening ceremony is at 8 a.m., with the games starting at 9 a.m.

There are games all day long, with championship game starting at about 7 p.m.

Law enforcement, fire, ambulance, and medical personnel will be participating in this event to help benefit and raise money for youth services in Napa County.

It is a free event.

There will be a silent auction, with many items to bid on. There will also be food available.

Youth services are important in helping families, and their children, get through difficult times.

Employees within each agency strive to assist these families, and their children, in need of intervention. Many times, the resources needed to help the families, and their children, are not there due to financial constraints, tournament organizers said.

The money raised from this event will help pay for sports, clothing, glasses, and school supplies, in order to help families, and their children through difficult times.

League for Napa Golf Course juniors Oct. 5-Nov. 5

PGA Director of Instruction David Knox will offer a junior golf league for Napa Golf Course players ages 7-15 from Oct. 5 to Nov. 5. The league will consist of a managed group practice with instruction from Knox on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school, as well as nine holes of team golf on Sunday afternoons.

A league parent-child orientation meeting will be on Oct. 1 to review rules and logistics, as well as to assign parent volunteers, assistant coaches and determine volunteers for match snacks.

The league is an introduction to golf, but experienced juniors will still enjoy the two-person scramble format of play. The number of teams within the league, and team sizes, will depend on overall participation levels. All participants will receive a golf shirt, golf cap, ball mark repair tool and bag tag.

The cost is $275 per player. The league will be limited to 24 players. A waitlist will be offered in the event of overbooking to help fill any late cancellations.

Those interested can contact Knox at davidknox@pga.com or 916-533-4108.
