Team Xtreme softball tryouts this weekend
Team Xtreme will hold tryouts for its 14- and 12-and-under softball teams, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 8, at Napa Valley College.
Tryouts for 16U players are Sunday, Dec. 9, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Napa Valley College.
Players are asked to arrive 15 minutes early for registration.

Vallejo Hurricanes softball tryouts this weekend
The Vallejo Hurricanes 16A softball team will hold tryouts for the 2013 summer season Dec. 8, Dec. 9 and Dec. 15 at the Vallejo Police Activities League field, 301 Wallace Ave.
Pitchers and catchers will try out from 9 to 9:45 a.m. All positions will try out from 9:45 a.m. to noon.
Anthony Kaluza is the team’s manager and Brian Ray is the head coach.
Tentatively scheduled tournaments include the R&R Gold Friendly 3-Game Tournament in Stockton on Jan. 13; ASA Memorial Classic, May 25-27 in Roseville; Grapettes June Classic in Stockton, June 1-2; JO Classic in Las Vegas, June 8-9; and the NorCal Championships in Sunnyvale, June 15-16.

Athlete nutrition seminar Sunday at CTS Gym
An athlete nutrition seminar will be held on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 5 p.m. at CTS Strength and Conditioning’s Gym, 1755 Industrial Way, #8, Napa.
It’s for all CTS athletes and parents.
All athletes under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
The seminar will cover pre- and post-workout nutrition to maximize training, daily eating schedule, hydration techniques, recommendations to promote and enhance recovery, motivation and visualization techniques, the importance of high quality protein, and the Isagenix difference.

Napa Little League sign-ups Sunday
Napa Little League baseball will be holding sign-ups for the spring 2013 season on Sunday, Dec. 9 at the Garfield Park Little League Complex, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
All players, new and returning, must provide two proofs of Napa residency, a parent valid ID, and all new players must provide a certified copy of the player’s birth certificate.
Napa Little League is accepting applications for all divisions: majors division (league ages 10-12), minor “A” division (league age 9-12), minor “B” division (league age 7-8), and rookie division (league age 6-8).
League age is determined by the player’s age on April 30, 2013.
Fees for majors, minor “A,” and minor “B” are $160, plus $40 in raffle tickets.
Fees for the rookie division are $90, plus $40 in raffle tickets.
Sibling discounts are $20 per extra player.
Tryouts for the majors and minor “A” divisions will be in late January and practices are due to start on or around Feb. 11, with the season concluding in early June with the city championship.
Anyone wishing to coach must fill out the manager’s and coaches’ application with the volunteer application form with the sign-up packet.

Supervisor Bill Dodd Christmas Party & Golf Tournament Dec. 10
Napa County Supervisor Bill Dodd’s 13th annual Christmas Party & Golf Tournament, benefiting Puertas Abiertas Community Resource Center, is Monday, Dec. 10 at Silverado Resort and Spa.
The golf tournament will take place on the North Course with an 11 a.m. shotgun start, and dinner and a Christmas party to follow starting at 5:30 p.m.
The event features fine wines and an auction.
The cost for the dinner and Christmas party is $75 per person. The cost is $175 per person for the golf, dinner and Christmas party.

Coaches needed for Junior Warriors Basketball League, which begins Dec. 10 in American Canyon
The Winter 2012 Junior Warriors Basketball League is quickly approaching, and the City of American Canyon Parks and Rec is seeking dedicated, volunteer coaches.
The league runs from Dec. 10 to Feb. 23, with playoffs the first two weekends in March.
This is a co-ed league that is open to all skill levels, with four different age groups ranging between 8 to 17.
The department is looking for coaches who can teach fundamentals, teamwork, sportsmanship and character, and make this a fun league for everyone.
The department wants coaches who love working with kids and who are committed to the program and community.
Practices are one day per week for one hour, and all candidates must be live scanned.

Napa Cal Ripken-Babe Ruth baseball sign-ups continue Dec. 12
Sign-ups for the Napa Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth League baseball programs for the spring season will be at Replay Sports, 598 Lincoln Ave., Napa, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. the Saturdays of Jan. 19, Feb. 2 and Feb. 9; and from 5 to 7 p.m. the Wednesdays of Dec. 12, Jan. 9, Jan. 30 and Feb. 13.
Tryouts for Cal Ripken 11- and 12-year-olds and Babe Ruth 13- to 15-year-olds will be Saturday, Feb. 23, at Silverado Middle School. This also will be the final sign-up time.
The Cal Ripken-Babe Ruth League has programs for players ages 6 to 19, and bills itself as the league where baseball is being taught the way it is played.
Cal Ripken Rookie and Minor divisions play on 60-foot bases, and the Major Division plays on 70-foot bases. In the Majors Division, pitchers are taught to work from the stretch. Players utilize leadoffs and stealing bases. The focus is on preparing players for tournament- and travel-style baseball on longer base paths and in real baseball situations. The Babe Ruth Division is for ages 13-15 and 16-19. Teams play on a professional-sized, 90-foot baseball diamonds.
The league is sponsoring training for managers, coaches, board members and parents from the Positive Coaching Alliance for the second year.

A player’s league age is as of April 30, 2013. Each registrant must provide a copy of a utility bill. Each new registrant will need to provide a birth certificate or other valid identification that shows the player’s birth date at the time of registration.
Registration fees for sign-ups are $145 for Rookies (ages 6-8), $175 for Minors (ages 9-10), $175 for Majors (ages 11-12), $225 for Babe Ruth ages 13-15, and $260 for Babe Ruth ages 16-19 (includes $25 refundable uniform deposit).
Each registration fee includes a refundable $10 deposit for attendance at a Positive Coaching Alliance workshop for parents to be sponsored by the league.

Napa Golf Course’s ‘Get Golf Ready’ starts Dec. 15
The “Get Golf Ready” program, offered by Napa Golf Course at Kennedy Park, is designed to teach you in five short lessons everything you’ll need to know to step on to a golf course and play with confidence. The program is for players ages 18 and over.
Lessons will include on-course activities guided by trained PGA and LPGA professionals, who will make sure you have fun each step of the way.
The fee is $99.
The program runs from Dec. 15 to Jan. 19, from 11 a.m. to noon, on Saturdays.
There is also a program on Jan. 26 to Feb. 23, from 11 a.m. to noon, on Saturdays.

Napa winter holiday baseball camps start Dec. 17
Play It Like A Pro is offering two baseball camps, Dec. 17-21 and Dec. 31-Jan. 4, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
All pre-high school ages are invited. Players will be split up into age groups. Early drop-off and late pick-up can be arranged.
The cost is $275 (one camp), $475 (both camps).

Holiday Basketball Camp at NVC Dec. 21-23
The inaugural Holiday Basketball Camp at Napa Valley College, provided by 1% Club Basketball’s certified trainers, is a fundraiser for the NVC men’s basketball team. It takes place Dec. 21-23.
From 9 a.m. to noon will be a Skills Camp for boys and girls, with separate groups for grades 3-4 and 6-9. The cost is $99 for all three days or $35 per day. Skills taught will be ballhandling, footwork, and offensive and defensive movement to improve game performance skills.
There will be dynamic drills for Optimist, CYO, school and AAU level players, and daily contests.

From noon to 1 p.m. will be a Shooting Clinic for grades 6-12. The cost is $75 for three days. It is limited to 12 players. Proper form (bio-mechanics) and dynamic shooting techniques are taught to improve scoring accuracy, consistency and confidence.

• Youth Basketball League: Practices will begin the week of Jan. 14. Games will begin Saturday, Jan. 26, and be played at Redwood and Harvest middle schools, and Napa and Vintage high schools. Each boys and girls division will be made up of 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12 age brackets.
Early registration fees of between $86 and $92 will be charged until Dec. 18. Late registration will be taken between Dec. 18 and Jan. 6, as space allows, for $96.

Napa Community T-Ball sign-ups continue Jan. 19
Napa Community T-Ball, a beginning baseball program for boys and girls whose birthdays fall between July 1, 2004 and May 1, 2008, are in January.
Sign-ups take place at the Napa County Library, 580 Coombs St., on Jan. 19, from 9 a.m. to noon; Jan. 23, from 5:15 to 8:15 p.m.; and Jan. 24, from 5:15 to 8:15 p.m.
It’s a $50 registration fee (it’s $25 for each additional child in the same family). There is an additional $25 late registration fee.
The fee includes a T-shirt, hat, pictures and trophies.
New players are asked to bring a copy of their birth certificate along with emergency and doctor’s phone numbers.
The season runs from April 13 to June 1.

Napa Valley Golf Association seeks players for NorCal tournaments starting in January
The Napa Valley Golf Association, an associate club formerly known as the Napa City Employees Golf Association, is looking for golfers who are interested in playing a year-long schedule of tournaments throughout Northern California in a lightly competitive but fun atmosphere, starting in January.
Tournament locations in 2012 included Silverado Resort, Yocha De-He at Cache Creek, Oakmont Golf Club in Santa Rosa, Aetna Springs in Pope Valley, and courses in the Lake Tahoe and Monterey areas.
Men, women and juniors are welcome, and fees include NCGA membership. Costs for 2013 are $55 for anyone who has an active NCGA membership already or $65 for those who will be newly establishing their handicap.

Napa Junior Lacrosse Club has coach openings
The Napa Junior Lacrosse Club has openings for men and women to coach boys and girls teams at various levels.
Experience with lacrosse is helpful but not necessary. The club seeks as coaches people who have a passion for helping children in a fun activity and can bring their expertise in whatever sport they have coached in the past. The NJLC offers a full coaches training program through US Lacrosse, as well as mentoring by its experienced staff. Stipends are available.
“If you have coached basketball, football or soccer, and are interested in something new or are already part of the growing lacrosse community and have playing and/or coaching experience, be part of the fastest game on two feet,” the club says. “We are also interested in those willing to learn a new sport and are willing to assist with the teams.”
