Denise and Oscar Renteria have purchased the renowned Brown Ranch Vineyard in the Los Carneros District. This 40-acre parcel has 29 planted acres (21 in pinot noir, eight in chardonnay) that were planted in 1992, and is bordered by HdV’s Hyde Vineyard and Beaulieu’s Vineyard No. 9 on Old Sonoma Road in Napa.
Acquired from Silverado Premium Partners, the Renterias add to their wholly owned properties on Mount Veeder and in Pope Valley, and to the 1,500 acres farmed under contract. They are one of the largest vineyard management companies in the North Bay Area, according to a news release.
“The purchase of Brown Ranch is a true feather in our cap. It’s a property long-prized for its fruit’s reputation and has an ideal location for the long-term growth of both our farming and winemaking businesses,” said Oscar Renteria. He noted that his father, Salvador, who walked the property with him, while now retired, had been the vineyard manager developing the early BV properties in Carneros.
Oscar Renteria estimates that they will harvest just over three tons per acre for the 2013 vintage with grapes already committed to Frank Family Vineyards, Rombauer Vineyards, Duckhorn Wine Co., and to his own Renteria Wines.
Renteria said the purchase “was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity” and said the property had a 20-year relationship with the highly regarded Saintsbury brand. Saintsbury cultivated the land and planted the first vineyards there in 1992, on the site of a cattle grazing ranch originally owned by Nadine Brown.
