The children of Richard and Patricia (Fulton) Dettman are excited to announce their parents’ 50th wedding anniversary.

Richard and Patricia met while working at Mont La Salle, Christian Brothers Winery in the late 1950s. They endearingly call it “love among the barrels.” On Friday, July 28, 1961, in the company of five guests, they were married in Napa.

They are the proud parents of Christine Cravenho Dettman of Sacramento, Catherine Dettman of Napa, Wendy Leong of New Zealand and Carolyn Dettman of St. Helena. They have two grandchildren, Jessica and Christopher Harris of New Zealand.

Richard enjoyed his career at Christian Brothers Winery for more than 31 years as Champagne maker and plant manager at Greystone in St. Helena, and retired from Sutter Home after eight years in the quality control department.

Patricia loved raising her children and was delighted to be a licensed day care provider for more than 25 years. She continues to be lovingly referred to as “Mama Pat” by all of her “kids.”

Together this positive and loving couple has toured the country (on an 11,000-mile road trip), as well as Europe, China and New Zealand. Their children attribute their parents’ successful marriage to the fact that every single day they tell each other “I love you.”

With the original cake topper and a few black-and-white photographs of their special day, they will gather with family and friends for their golden anniversary where their love began at Mont La Salle in Napa. Their children say, “Congratulations, Mom and Dad! We love you!”
