Robert Wolcott Meals Jr. passed peacefully from this world to the next on July 22nd 2017 after a brave battle against cancer, at home with his loving family at his side.
Bob was born in San Francisco in 1936 to Captain Robert and Veta Meals. When he was eight years old, Bob had the experience that would determine the rest of his life: his uncle Guy McClure took him up in an airplane for the first time, and that amazing adventure sealed his destiny. Bob attended The United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, and immediately upon graduating in 1958, he entered US Air Force pilot training.
Bob served honorably for 28 years in the Air Force. After his military retirement, he went on to a 20+ year second career which he also loved, as a flight simulator instructor for the KC10 program.
For Bob, being in the world of aviation was more than just a career he loved, it was a calling, and he remained true to this calling for as long as he was physically able.
Bob leaves behind his loving wife, Martha Meals, his son, Robert Wolcott Meals 3rd, his daughter Joan Hawki, son-in-law Dennis Hawki, his grandson Garrett Hawki, granddaughter Jodi Hawki, and his brother David Meals.
Memorial service will take place September 15th, 11am at Grace Episcopal Church in St. Helena, California.
