Keith Wilson

Calistoga's Sofie Contemporary Arts will host a reception for artist Keith Wilson from 4 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 6 at their showroom, 1407 Lincoln Ave.

Sofie Contemporary Arts in Calistoga presents “Keith Wilson: Forgotten Cities of the Heart,” an exhibition of original watercolors, drawings and prints spanning several decades of Wilson’s private architectural imaginings, through Sunday, Feb. 4. There is an artist’s reception from 4 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 6.

Wilson’s architecturally focused work was primarily produced between 1978 and 1995, with another active phase from 2002 to 2006, while he and his wife, Jessica Seaton, restored a large William Wurster house they had purchased in Berkeley.

Gallery Director Jan Sofie notes that the exhibition title reflects an idea in the contemporary world that built objects need to be serious and even somber. “Sometimes in our effort to be technically, politically and culturally correct, we lose the sense of what we want to create, to see and how we want to live,” Sofie said. “Our environments can be tense spaces that tend to close us down, rather than help open our hearts. Keith Wilson’s work shows a different way of creating and responding to space and its potential for joy.”

Sofie Contemporary Arts is at 1407 Lincoln Ave. in Calistoga. For details, call 707-942-4231.
