70 years of marriage
Vincent and Claire Amendola of St. Helena are celebrating 70 years of marriage. Vince and the former Claire Peck met at San Francisco State College and were married on Dec. 21, 1947 in Santa Maria, California.
After serving in the U.S. Army in World War II, Vince taught at St. Helena High School from 1949 to 1956, then at Hillsdale High School in San Mateo from 1956 to 1962. He spent the 27 remaining years of his career with the California Teachers Association in fieldwork and management.
Claire taught junior high school (English and music) in San Francisco and St. Helena from 1947-1951, then taught French and Spanish at Cupertino Junior High from 1965 to 1987.
The Amendolas bought property in St. Helena in 1979 and have lived here since retiring in the 1980s.
Vince and Claire are the parents of Michèle Amendola, Stephen Amendola (wife Liz), and David Amendola; and grandparents of Daniel Amendola (wife Marina) and Jeremy Amendola.
