A man called 911 at about 9 a.m. Thursday when the back of his vehicle caught on fire in the 3400 block of Highway 29 north of St. Helena, according to CalFire. The man, who was on his property, tried but was unable to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher, CalFire Engineer Kamron Ganabin said.

The fire, which started in the back of a 1986 Volkswagen Vanagon for unknown reasons, was contained at 9:20 a.m., according to CalFire. The fire was confined to the vehicle and did not spread to nearby structures and an array of solar panels on the vineyard property.

There were no reported injuries. The fire is not considered suspicious.
