The Napa Valley Wine Wave, an effort to establish the longest relay wine toast for the Guinness Book of World Records, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 7 at Charles Krug Winery, 2800 Main St. in St. Helena.
Sunday’s event includes appetizers from local restaurants as well as wines from 12 Appellation St. Helena wineries: Charles Krug, Ballentine, Charnu, Chase Family, J. Lohr, Raymond, Robert Biale, Rutherford Grove, Salvestrin, Trinchero, Tudal, and V. Sattui.
The Napa Valley Wine Wave must be a sequential toast where participants clink glasses in order, from start to finish, rather than the more common toast where everyone clinks glasses simultaneously. An official Guinness adjudicator will announce whether the new world record has been set and, if successful, participants will receive a world record medallion to commemorate the event.
The event is open to participants and spectators. Tickets for participants are $100; for spectators, the cost is $35. Locals who purchase a $100 participant ticket get a second ticket for free. All tickets can be bought at NapaValley WineWave.org.
The fundraising event is being produced by Lowell Smith and the Kiwanis Club of St. Helena, in partnership with the wineries of Appellation St. Helena, Cheers! St. Helena and the St. Helena Chamber of Commerce. All event proceeds will go to scholarships for students of agriculture, viticulture, winemaking, business and hospitality.
