The St. Helena Star published a great story about Jan Molen of St. Helena partnering with guide dog yellow Labrador "Babe."
We just want those who are interested to know that there is an active Guide Dogs for the Blind Puppy Raising group locally, Napa Valley Puppy Raisers. We currently have eight puppies in Napa and surrounding towns. Our mission is to take sweet eight-week-old puppies -- Golden Retrievers, Yellow and Black Laboradors and Laborador/Goldren Retriever mixed puppies (crosses) and raise them for a year or more until they are old enough to enter training to become working partners through Guide Dogs for the Blind.
They are with us in our homes and go with us out into the world to learn how to behave in everyday situations. At about 16 months old they are returned to Guide Dogs for the Blind for final professional training, to be assigned a partner and to begin their life's work.
Napa Valley Puppy Raisers has been a part of Napa for over 30 years, and we welcome folks interested in supporting Guide Dogs for the Blind in a totally unique way -- by opening their hearts and their homes and raising a GDB puppy.
