This is the kind of wine math I can sink my teeth into: sunny Napa Valley day + great colleagues + delicious food + tasty, local sauvignon blanc wine = one great lunch, Napa-style. The setting was Brix restaurant, with its chic and relaxing outdoor patio that stretches toward a sumptuous lawn and gardens against the backdrop of the western hills. This has been called the hot spot for Sunday brunch, and it becomes clear why within minutes of arriving.

Honig’s sauvignon blanc was the chosen wine, and it could not have fit in any better. The iced bottle provided crisp lemon zest, grapefruit, peach and nectarine respite from the warm day, along with conviviality around the table. Next up, it’ll be oysters and clams with this wine: another perfect equation.

Catherine Bugue is the Star’s tasting panel writer. Her weekly pursuit of a good glass of wine provides a nice supply of choices for the Wine of the Week column. If you’d like to submit a Napa Valley wine for this column, please send it to the Napa Valley Wine Academy, 2501 Oak St., Napa, CA 94559. There’s no guarantee your wine will be chosen to be featured, but all wines will be evaluated and considered.
