This is one hot and cold sauvignon blanc -- and that's a good thing. Warm climate fruit from Calistoga is layered with cooler climate sauvignon blanc from Carneros to produce a wine that has it all: fresh lemon and orange citrus, ripe nectarine and peaches with a hint of tropical fruitiness -- all underscored by an intriguing note of flinty smokiness.
The Sauvignon Musque clone, owner Karen Cakebread explains, adds tropical notes to the laser-like citrus and grassy character of Clone 1. Also making a showing is Clone 276. Even if you have zero desire to geek out about clones, this sauvignon blanc is one juicy sip for the summer months ahead.
